Types of Asphalt Paving: Asphalt paving is one of the most common types of paving. Hence, it is the most common type of paving in the United States.

What is Asphalt?

Asphalt is a mixture of bitumen and aggregate.  We prepare this mixture by heating it.  We then pour it onto a prepared surface.  This creates a smooth, hard, durable surface.  Asphalt can be useful in many different applications.

Types of Asphalt Paving

There are many different types of asphalt paving. The type you use will depend on the application.  In addition, it depends on the type of surface you want to create. The most common types of asphalt paving are:

Asphalt concrete is a very dense type of asphalt paving we use for parking lots or driveways. Additionally, it is often for road surfacing.
Asphalt pavers -Made of small stones, this is often used on sidewalks, patios, or other paved surfaces with a more decorative appearance.
Asphalt shingles – You may be familiar with this type for use as roofing. These asphalt shingles are often very thick.
Asphalt roofing tiles – These are for use on commercial buildings, such as office buildings, warehouses, or shopping malls. They have a thin layer of asphalt which is covered with a thin layer of mortar.
Asphalt sealer – This type of pavement sealer is often for parking areas. It is usually a type of asphalt paving that contains a very high percentage of rubber.
